Pilates Pro

March 4 – 6:30PM

Instructor: Sarah Kornfeld

First time trying pilates, and of course I signed up for Sarah’s class. It’s great how I have started to form a relationsip with certain instructors. Now I’m not the only one who can see my progress…and no I’m not talking about my physical changes, but my actual ability to complete reps and movements to the fullest. There is nothing more motivational than Sarah telling me she “can really see an improvement in my form each week”. Hello, girl crush major? But forget that, first pilates class experience:

I was a bit intimidated by the machine. I was the only new comer in class and had no idea how to move or operate the spring-board, moving bed thing in front of me. Sarah gave me a quick run-down and I shook my head while thinking to myself “Just fake it til you make it”. I have to admit I did a pretty good job of this. I carefully follow instructions and only messed up a couple of times – go me!

Now, for anyone who is new to pilates let me tell you, this is an understated, under-discussed workout. I was 5 minutes in and my muscles were crying. Very slow and steady repetitive movements make for a deep muscular burn. By the end of the class my legs were shaking. And I felt the workout just 1 mere hour after class was done. It was noticeably effective.

I absolutely loved this class and cant’ wait for my next pilates experience!

40Works – Boot Camp Pro

February 23 – 6:00PM

Second time in the bootcamp, and this time I was more prepared for the ass kicking that lay ahead. But this time the tiny studio seemed overhwlemed with girls/women all trying to get the experience and I quickly felt congested. Although there was enough room to complete all the moves, I was still very apprehensive with quick movements and my person space. Oringially we were told to not wear shoes for the class, but now half of us were wearing them and half weren’t. There was no order to the spacing and everything seemed like a free-for-all. I’m all for allowing everyone to get their workout in, but come on…don’t overcrowd the tiny studio just to accommodate more bodies. It’s not an efficient workout if you can’t dive head first into it and really give it your all now is it?

February 9 – 6:00PM

Instructor: Sarah Kornfeld

Surprisingly, an ass kicker. Sarah did not let up for one second in this class (she did give a disclaimer that she doesn’t take breaks so if we need one we have to take it ourselves), but holy sh*t I was struggling during my first class. A lot of her movement s reminded me of the Bikini Body Guide (by Kayla Itsines) workouts I had done before with my girl Jesse. A lot of strength training using your own body weight combined with pilates inspired moves and a decent amount of cardio.

The studio was small and intimate with only about 8 girls in the class. There were some obvious regulars who put me to shame. They completed every move with ease and I could see the muscles popping from their backs. Sarah had a super intense plank session that I could just not complete – abs are by far my weakest asset and after about 1 minute of plank holds I want to die. Not even because my core is sore, but more for my shoulders. Poor little guys cant seem to hold up my fat ass…just gotta keep telling myself it’ll eventually happen.

After class Sarah opened up for any comments or concerns and this is when I truly fell in love with the class. She is awesome! We talked all about the different classes I had been trying and she encouraged me to come back for another bootcamp and even try my hand at pilates. I must admit I had a serious girl crush, so I knew I would be back!
