SWEAT Express

Tuesdays at 11:30AM — February 3, February 10, February 17, March 3, March 10

Instructor: Kevin Lutsch

This class has become a staple of my week – well that is, 3 weeks out of every month thanks to the ClassPass rules. Referred to as their Tabatta Tuesdays, SWEAT Express is a quick 40 minute high intensity interval session. It is perfect for anyone who works in the area and doesn’t think they have enough time to get in a full hour at SWEAT. Circuit style training, with a little cross fit influence, I always leave this gym covered in, yup, you guessed it…sweat!

As most of you know by now, I definitely have the time in my days to complete an entire hour class, but I just can’t bring myself to change instructors. Kevin is absolutely fantastic and always leads the SWEAT Express on Tuesdays, so I keep coming back for more. He has a great way of interacting with the students that is not too intimidating, but also doesn’t allow you to half ass anything. I think my favorite part is that there have been 2 Tuesdays where it has just been me and Kevin in class so I actually get a one on one and he completes the circuits with me. It’s always nice to see a fit-as-f*ck trainor struggle with the same moves you are doing. Really reassuring that I’m not as weak as I thought!

It’s also great hearing Kevin talk about his eating habits, and knowing that he can finish an entire Jewel Osco rack of cupcakes in one sitting, let’s me know that the fit fatties are out there 😛 Just have to get them to start consuming clean-fatty meals.

The workouts for SWEAT Express vary a decent amount, but you can always rest assure there will be a sprint/sprint incline interval or a max row section. I would like to see a bit more core, thought (honestly, this is my only criticism. I love this place!) Some days have definitely been more challenging that others – let’s just say my body was not meant to complete 8 rounds of pull ups, I almost fell over after about 3. Just have to remind myself to keep pushing and the 8 round will be over before I know it…at least I hope.

The facility is great too! Tucked away on State Street just off of Division you will find this little gem. Still under some construction you head downstairs to a nicely set up space with rowers, treadmills, various weights, medicine balls, etc. And my absolute favorite part is the scent of their towels! Very fresh, clean and the detergent is never too overpowering.

If you have not explored a SWEAT class yet, please do! Because I just can’t get enough!

*Tabatta for anyone who doesn’t know is circuit style training where you push yourself on each maneuver for 20 seconds with a 10 second rest period for 8 rounds total. The intense peak in your heart rate, with a quick restoration period makes for a quick and effective workout. The circuit is over before you even know it!
